Class description
Critical examination of a few major trends of the last 50 years in modern music.
Student learning goals
Students will get a deeper understanding of some of the most important developments in recent modern music.
Students will learn to develop a critical attitude toward recent trends in modern music, through extensive reading and discussion.
General method of instruction
Recommended preparation
Knowledge of analytical tools for 20th century music, as well as basic knowledge of the various musical trends of the past 50 years.

Participation in class discussion. Reading summaries and small analytical projects. Class presentation and final paper
