Seminar in Schenkerian Analysis

Advanced work in Schenkerian analysis. Prerequisite: MUSIC 470.

Class description

In this seminar we will read important essays from Schenker's Masterwork in Music. The seminar will critique Schenker's analyses, and also discuss the pros and cons of Schenkerean theory in general, with possible discussion of alternatives to it.
