Class description
Material will include the liturgy, chant, and polyphony in use in France from approximately 1000-1450, from the earliest chant sources through the music of Dufay. Prerequisites will be enforced.

General method of instruction
Classes will consists of a combination of lectures and discussions; there will be one project to be chosen by each student, with a paper on that project to be written before the end of the quarter. There will also be a mid-term and a final examination.
