Art Song, 1760-1830

The art song in European culture during the classical and early Romantic periods. Prerequisite: minimum grade of 2.0 in each of MUHST 210, MUSIC 303, and MUSIC 306.

The art songs of Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven, and their predecessors

A serious commitment to learning, including developing excellent writing skills.

Class assignments and grading

A series of essay papers

Essay papers and active participation in class discussions. NO FINAL EXAM.
