Monteverdi through Handel. Prerequisite: minimum grade of 2.0 in each of MUHST 210, MUSIC 303, and MUSIC 306.

Class description

Sacred Music in the Lutheran Tradition: Bach, Before, and Beyond

This course will survey choral music based on Lutheran chorales, from the time of Luther on, and will focus on the annual cycle of chorale cantatas that Bach composed his second year at Leipzig.
