Special Topics in Management

Topics of current interest to faculty and students. Offered when allowed by faculty availability and sufficient student interest. Content announced in advance of scheduled offerings.

Class description

The objective of the class is to help improve students’ performance in their first professional managerial experience. Topics include: - Strategic planning and project planning - Interpersonal skills - Teamwork and other working relationships - The importance of tenacity - Thinking outside the box / creative problem solving - Dealing with ambiguity - Dealing with ethical challenges - Making marketing decisions - Handling financial responsibility - Leadership skills and challenges

Student learning goals

General method of instruction

We use the Apprentice episodes as cases. So, the episodes are the basis for project plans and class discussions. Highlights of the class include a converation with George Ross (Trump's, right hand man on the show), and Linda Sawyer (Exec from Deutsch Advertising)

Recommended preparation

Broad thinking about different management related issues and a willingness to be analytical and introspective about those topics.
