Class description
You will learn the foundations and practical applications of leadership, decision making, and critical thinking theories.
Student learning goals
General method of instruction
The course is taught as an upper-division/graduate style class in which emphasis is placed on class participation, active learning, and self-directed study. Required readings will include academic articles (e.g., Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology) and some popular business press.
Recommended preparation
You should come to class prepared to discuss required readings in detail. Additional suggested readings may be useful to clarify key concepts. Students without firm grounding in organizational behavior (e.g., MGMT 300) will want to review Stephen Robbins' textbook "Essentials of Organizational Behavior" prior to the first day of class.
Class assignments and grading
Assignments will include unscheduled in-class writing assignments, written evaluations of popular and academic literature, and groupwork (both in and out of class).
Grading criteria will be discussed in detail the first week of class. The class is graded on a curve with a mean of 3.2.
