Topics in Computational Linguistics

In-depth study of a particular area of computational linguistics, with hands-on experience. Prerequisite: LING 570 and 571, or permission of instructor. Offered: WSp.

Class description

Foundations of statistical machine translation: models and algorithms. Topics include word alignment, phrasal and syntactic machine translation models, decoding algorithms, and some more advanced specialized techniques. Coursework includes experimentation with translation components, term projects, and leading paper discussions.
