Political, social, economic, religious history of American Jewish community from great eastern European migration to present. Integration of immigrant community into general American community; rise of nativism; development of American socialism; World War I and II; and reactions of American Jews to these events. Offered: jointly with HSTAA 336.
This course provides an introduction to American Jewish History through archival research, digital storytelling, and public history. Students will have the opportunity to explore digitized archival material related to Jewish History in the Pacific Northwest, interpret these documents in light broader historical trends, and create on-line, public exhibits. Learn Jewish history while gaining crucial skills for communicating with new media and technology.

General method of instruction
Class will integrate lecture, discussion, and group project work. Class will be held in the new Active Learning Classroom to allow students to work on digital projects during class time.
No background in Jewish studies or technology required. All necessary skills will be introduced during the quarter.
Class assignments and grading
The main project for the course will be the creation of a website that tells a particular story through images, video, and short blog-style essays.
Students will work in groups. However, grades will primarily be assessed through individual contributions to the on-line exhibit.
