ANIME AND ANIMATION This course will provide an introduction to the history and theory of Japanese animation. We will watch a number of key works of anime and learn a variety of approaches to them, including formal analysis and analysis of anime reception and fandom, and a consideration of thematic elements such as their representation of gender, history and the future, and the human/machine and human/animal divide. No prerequisites. No knowledge of Japanese required.
