Introduction to relational database design and development theory, concepts, and skills, including traditional transactional database theory, architecture, and implementation in a user-centered systems context using SQL. Introduces database modeling, security, and privacy issues. Prerequisite: INFX 502 or permission of instructor.

This 10 week online course will blend various activities to gradually grow comprehension on
1. What a Relational database system (RDMS) is and what it is used for
2. How to design and implement a relational database from scratch using a standard development methodology and a free commercially off the shelf RDMS product
3. What Structured Query Language (SQL) is and how it is used to create, manipulate and operate a relational database

General method of instruction
This session of INFX 543 is offered as an online class with no scheduled residence or lab sessions. The 10 week course will be delivered through CANVAS and offer weekly reading assignments, weekly SQL tutorials and a weekly project design/build sprint with instructor recorded lectures to tie it all together. There is no textbook requirement for this class.
Recommended preparation
INFX 502 or equivalent, access to a personal computer (laptop or desktop, windows, mac or linux OS) and installation of MySQL Workbench.
This course will use MySQL Workbench, an integrated tools environment for Database Design & Modeling, SQL Development and Database Administration.
