Networking and Network Applications for Information Professionals

Introduces the concepts, terminology and technologies of digital networks, including how networks operate and the influence networks have on the workplace and society. Includes preparation to think critically about the impacts of networking technologies on organizations, work groups and information systems. Credit/no Credit only.

Class description

INFX 504 – Networking for Information Professionals (1Cr): Introduction to the concepts, terminology and technologies of digital networks, including how networks operate and the influence networks have on the workplace and society. Prepares students to think critically about the impacts of networking technologies on organizations, work groups and information systems. Prepares students for advanced studies in database technologies, web design and information assurance. Credit/no Credit only. Prerequisite: none. (Prepares students for INFX 546)

The purpose of this course is to provide a basic introduction to networking and Internet terminology, skills and concepts that are prerequisites for other iSchool courses. These skills are often a component of the many positions that the iSchool graduate programs prepares students for and can be a critical success factor for information professionals taking leadership roles in future information systems initiatives.
