Human Resource Management Foundations for Information Professionals

Introduction to human resource management for information professionals. Covers the principles of job analysis, employee selection, interviewing, training, and appraisal.

Class description

IMT 585 Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of the field of Human Resource Management. This course blends Human Resource Management (HR) concepts with Information Systems (IS) concepts. We will spend time exploring some of the information issues encountered in the human resources arena. Areas to be covered include selection (hiring), training and development, employee relations, etc. and the information systems used to manage and support these human resource activities. Prerequisites: IMT 510; IMT 580.

Upon completion of the course, students will demonstrate a:

Basic understanding of the terms and concepts of HRM to include recruitment and placement, training and development, compensation, labor relations, employee security, and International HRM. Recognition and understanding of the uses of HRIS products in various areas of HRM including Enterprise Planning Systems (ERPs), recruitment/selection systems, training management systems, performance management systems, benefits systems, etc. Knowledge of HRIS data management and security issues
