Policy, Law, and Ethics in Information Management

Select concepts, processes, and issues related to the organizational contexts within which information professionals practice. Topics include information as public/private good, intellectual property, privacy, confidentiality, information liability, and information policy. Focus on contemporary issues affecting the role of the information manager.

Course Description

This course examines policy and ethical issues affecting information use, with an emphasis on the social and cultural aspects. We will read about and discuss policy issues including copyright and intellectual property, ethical issues including freedom of expression and social justice, and explore ways in which they are relevant to information management professionals.
