Core Research Seminar in Chinese History

An introduction to research practices in Chinese history and exemplary recent works.

Class description

The preparation of a substantial research project, presented to the class in several stages.

Student learning goals

Use Chinese primary sources to do a long research paper

Take a critical approach to proposed research

Offer constructive criticism of other people's research efforts

General method of instruction

Discussion of student work.

Recommended preparation

Must be able to read classical Chinese

Class assignments and grading

Presentation of research and writing in stages.

Participation and final paper
