Methods and materials for research in early imperial Chinese history. Prerequisite: reading knowledge of classical Chinese. Recommended: either HSTAS 452, HSTAS 550, HSTAS 551, or equivalent.
Class description
This course is a research seminar, with each student writing a research paper.

General method of instruction
The course will be very "hands on," with each student showing exactly how he or she is conducting research and everyone discussing each others' progress.
Recommended preparation
Ability to read Classical Chinese is necessary.
Class assignments and grading
Students will make several presentations of sources they are using and preliminary drafts of their papers.
