Class description
This is the first half of a two-quarter research seminar (HSTAA 513-514) on the North American West. The major focus is researching and writing individual papers in western history and related fields. Students ought to plan to register for both halves, AA513 and AA514.

Class assignments and grading
Over the course of two quarters (HSTAA 513 and HSTAA 514), students will select topics, conduct research, prepare rough and final drafts, and critique one another's work. There will be a small amount of common readings, and probably a short paper or two. Details TBA.
