This course examines the evolution of Mexico, politically, economically, and culturally beginning in the 1820s. Special attention is paid to the periods 1876-1911, 1919-1940, and 1959-today. The rise of the Mexican State in the 1930s and its growing limitations aggravated by the impact of "free trade" are strong currents of analysis and discussion.
