Introduction to the discipline of history for new or prospective majors. Emphasizes the basic skills of reading, analysis, and communication (both verbal and written) that are central to the historian's craft. Each seminar discusses a different subject or problem.
Class description
This course will explore the US colonial period in the Philippines from 1898 until 1946. It places US overseas expansion within the history of Western imperialism, and examines the origins and particular forms of US imperialism that resonate globally, and carry on throughout the twentieth century.
