Class description
University Perspectives is an unique version of General Studies 199. This course introduces strategies and skills to effectively navigate and evaluate university-level, argumentative research. Participants investigate films, academic articles, music, and speeches in a collaborative, discussion-based classroom. Class size is limited to 22 students. Student learning goals
General method of instruction
University Perspectives is a discussion-based course. We'll approach every topic as a group solving or exploring a problem. Unversity Perspectives' instructors are experienced facilitators who enjoy and emphasize small group collaboration and active learning.
Recommended preparation
In order to take the University Perspectives course, students must be in their first year at the UW. All majors are welcomed and encouraged to take this course.
Class assignments and grading
Assignments will be both collaborative and individual - culminating with a small quarter project. Students will also regularly participate in discussions and complete other weekly assignments.
University Perspectives is a non-graded (Credit/No Credit) course worth two elective credits. Although, the course is not graded, students will turn in several assignments and receive substantive feedback from instructors and classmates.
