Class description
Political Economy of the European Union This course focuses on the political economy of the European Union. There are three main emphases: (1) the history and theory of European integration; (2) the key, epoch-making events (Rome Treaty, Single European Act, Maastricht and monetary union; and, (3) the intensive examination of particular policies and problems (citizenship, social policy, regional policy, gender equality, and the democratic deficit). Recent changes in the EU, in terms of enlargement and failure of the constitutional treaty, will also be discussed.
