Class description

Fractures, fluids, and heat: the basic science behind geothermal energy and other problems involving fluid flow in fractured rock. Topics covered include: crustal heat flow, crustal stress fields, hydraulic fracturing of rocks ("fracking"), fluid flow through fractures, and induced seismicity. Seminar style (reading, discussions) with problem sets and a final project.
