Study of the work of women writers in English and American literature.
Class description
Women's Comics: Course examines the work of women comics writers, beginning with a selection of stories from the 1970s underground/alternative collections, Wimmen's Comix, Twisted Sisters and It Ain't Me Babe. We will then turn to a selection of contemporary graphic memoirs (Bechdel, Satrapi, Forney) and fiction (Abel, Modan, Abel, Corman, Larson). The course ends with a discussion of women working in mainstream comics (Simone's runs on Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman and Batgirl).
