Contemporary American Literature: Famous Short Stories
This course will explore the current state of the American short story, focusing on the most recent and innovative stories. Authors we will cover include: Annie Proulx; George Saunders; Anthony Doerr; Stephen Millhauser; Junot Diaz; Jim Harrison; and others. Although the reading load will be light, we will be reading closely and discussing the stories in some detail, all in the interest of unpacking the inner workings and social concerns driving experimenation in the short story form.
