Introduction to the development of the religious ideas and institutions of ancient Israel, with selected readings from the Old Testament and New Testament. Emphasis on reading The Bible with literary and historical understanding.
Class description
For SUMMER and AUTUMN 2007: A rapid study of readings taken from both the Old and New Testaments, focusing mainly on those parts of the Bible with the most “literary” interest — narratives, poems and philosophy.

Students will be expected to attend class regularly, keep up with reading assignments, and take part in open discussion. Written work will consist entirely of a series of in-class essays, done in response to study questions handed out in advance.
