Intermediate Expository Writing

Writing papers communicating information and opinion to develop accurate, competent, and effective expression.

Class description

For SUMMER 2008: Writing five different types of persuasive prose essays.

Student learning goals

identify different aims of writing

adjust their own writing according to specific aim and audience

critique pieces of writing in relation to their aims

assess language and style as means of persuading

General method of instruction

discussion and workshops

Recommended preparation

Successful completion of ENGL 131 or the equivalent

Class assignments and grading

five 4-5 page papers

grades assigned to portfolios of the writing for the course
