Seminar in Teacher Education

Focus on recent research, issues, and proposals for future development in teacher education, certification, and continuing professional growth. Alternate year offering focuses on either preservice or inservice issues. Prerequisite: permission of instructor.

Class description

To deepen students understandings of

(1) . the historical development and evolution of university-based preservice teacher preparation programs (2) . the organization and content of the teacher preparation curriculum (3) . criticisms of preservice teacher preparation programs (4) . efforts to reform teacher education programs (5) . recent research on teacher education and teacher learning (6)  .creating rich opportunities for preservice teachers to learn

General method of instruction

Seminar discussions of readings, student research projects and presentations.

Recommended preparation

Read and respond (on EPost) to assigned articles. Respond to colleagues' EPosts. Participate in classroom discussions. Complete data collection. Complete writing assignments.
