Class description
How can we better serve the needs of diverse students in our schools? What do educators need to know about racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity to address the challenges of teaching and learning across and through differences? How do we begin the personal and professional journey of teaching for social justice?

General method of instruction
We will review the literature on multicultural education and culturally responsive pedagogy and how they can be used to improve school life for students and teachers. Participants will have the opportunity to make links from theory to practice and construct knowledge through readings, discussions, lectures, films, and personal reflection. Guest speakers include James A. Banks, Geneva Gay, Robin DiAngelo and others.
