Current Issues and Trends in Early Childhood and Family Studies

Explores current theory, research, policy, and practice in early childhood and family studies. Offered: AWSpS.

Class description

This course will address big ideas in mathematics learning for young children, including Number & Operations, Geometry & Spatial Sense, and Measurement & Data. The course work will rely heavily on the use of video observation and reflection of students instruction with young children. Ongoing reflective practice is also a part of this course, and will focus on teacher practice and child learning through video observation of mathematics instructional interactions. Students should plan to interact regularly with children outside of the course setting, and to video record these mathematics learning interactions. Students will gain skills in observation, planning, and instruction of mathematics with children in early education settings."
