Summer 2007, 2 different Drama 490s

Drama 490 B Callbacks and cold readings, 2 credits

How does one approach a script that was just handed to him or her? How does one make sense of a text in a short period of time? What are appropriate choices to make at a callback in order to get the job? How does an actor know how to market him or herself at a callback?

Summer 2007, Drama 490 E Rehearsal and performance of one week of the 365 plays/365 days project. July 5-August 6 We will rehearse and perform one week's plays written by Suzan-Lori Parks as a part of a nationwide theatre festival. Students will act, design, direct, and market this week's shows. Casting and play assignments will occur the first few days of class.

Student learning goals

To make first-impulse choices and make them real, clear, and strong.

To be able to adapt to suggestions and notes in the moment with much at stake.

365: To know what is required to put on a small festival.

General method of instruction

This is an intensive practical class in which students will prepare and perform cold-reading material from scripts at mock callback auditions. Students will perform everyday in class from classical and contemporary texts.

Recommended preparation

prerequisite: Drama 253

Class assignments and grading

Includes reading plays and rehearsing scenes.

Course is CR/NC.
