Advanced Acting -- Production Workshop

Improvisation skills. Methodology employed develops one five-minute solo work, using either original or adaptations of non-dramatic texts. Culminates in two public showings of the five-minute one-person works. Offered: A.

Class description

Studio course. Audition required, 18 students selected to register. Students must be declared Drama majors. The course is sequential and each level requires the previous course as its prerequisite.

Drama 451 is only offered in Autumn Quarter, 452 in Winter and 453 in Spring. Please note: this class does not satisfy the acting requirement for the BA degree.

Series addresses the challenge of integrating mental homework (script analysis, psychological motivation)with clarity of physical expression.

451: Development of physical grammar, stamina, concentration, will, use of breath; work on two contemporary monologues.

General method of instruction

Training is centered in a strong physical approach, developing practical skills for expressing thoughts, playing action and exploring character conviction in powerful, "believable" ways.

Recommended preparation

Prerequisites: Completion of all of the technical course requirements.
