Introduction to Design for the Performing Arts

Survey of the role of design (scenery, costume, lighting, and sound) in the contemporary performing arts. Consideration of communicative mission and limitations of each of the design areas. Recommended: DRAMA 210; DRAMA 211; DRAMA 212.

Class description

Surveys visual aspects of performance as developed in the work of scenic, costume and lighting designers.

General method of instruction

Analysis of assigned texts and examination of contemporary practice lead to student projects in each area.
