Theatre Technical Practice

Intensive lecture-laboratory in basic theories, techniques, and equipment of the stage. Costumes.

Class description

Geared towards an appreciation of costumes for the stage and other performance venues, this class is split into two parts: The Labs are a series of exercises designed to elevate one's awarness of costumes as visual manipulation. The Lectures examine the elements of design in accordance with text analysis. The class looks at how character development, emotional intent and rhythm affect a designer's ideas. Labs cover costume shop tools that range from the sewing machine to the dye vat.
