Special studies designed to address contemporary and historical concerns in the field of dance.
Class description
This course will explore how to become informed, effective and empowering teachers. Students will examine theories from the world of education and psychology, specifically focusing on how they relate to teaching methods in a dance classroom. Students will look at their own approach to teaching, and consider new ideas, and discuss their efficacy as they relate to dance pedagogy. Readings and discussion will include history of education, learning and motivational theories, motor learning, brain compatible dance education and ethics in education.
