Fundamentals of Prokaryotic Biology

Basic principles in prokaryotic cell structure, genomics, and metabolism. Introduction to prokaryotic physiology, bacterial pathogenesis, and microbial ecology.

General method of instruction

The course is will be a combination of lecture and discussion of papers that follow from the lecture material.

Recommended preparation

Graduate status in a biology - related discipline and an interest in learning about bacteria.

Class assignments and grading

The will be one exam and each week will include preparation and in-class discussion of primary literature.

Grades will 40% based on the exam and 60% based on in-class discussion.
