Modern Approaches to Vaccines

Covers selected topics based on recent publications in viral and bacterial vaccine research. Emphasizes understanding that latest advanced and issues in vaccine discovery, mechanisms of action, and special topics in viral vaccines. Offered: Sp.

Class description

Focus on the fundamentals of vaccines: How vaccines are designed and formulated and the immune mechanisms of vaccine protection from pathogens with an emphasis on viral vaccines. Guest lecturers will discuss cutting edge approaches for vaccine discovery and innovation. Students will learn how vaccines work and the latest approaches in vaccine innovation. Students will also learn how grant applications are reviewed and scored through participation in a mock NIH style vaccines study section and review of real vaccine grant applications donated by various principle investigators in the field.
