Seminar in Greek and Roman Art

In-depth study of selected topics and problems of the art of ancient Greece and Rome. Offered: jointly with ART H 541.

Class description

Greek Sanctuaries and the Archaeology of Religion

This course will examine the archaeological, architectural, visual, and other evidence pertaining to selected sanctuaries in the ancient Greek world. Sites will include Delphi, Olympia, Brauron, Epidauros, the Acropolis at Athens, and others.

This course is restricted to graduate students.

Class assignments and grading

Requirements include participation in weekly discussions, a presentation on an assigned sanctuary, and a final research paper (15-20 pages).
