Class description
Students will improve their Chinese language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, and will make significant gains in the acquisition of vocabulary. By the end of the 201-202-203 sequence, students will have mastered all the basics of Chinese grammar. Students will continue to make progress in the recognition and writing of traditional Chinese characters, and simplified characters will be gradually introduced.

General method of instruction
Class time will be spent primarily on practicing the usage of new grammar and vocabulary, and the reading and discussion of texts. We will also spend time on in-class group activities designed to improve fluency and spontaneity in language use.
Recommended preparation
Students should have completed CHIN 201 with a solid grasp of the course material.
Class assignments and grading
Students will need to prepare every day for class, previewing and reviewing vocabulary, grammar, and texts. There will be regular homework assignments, quizzes, and tests. In addition, there will be one skit and one essay assigned for the quarter.
Grades are based on homework, tests and quizzes, the skit and essay, and on preparation and performance in class.
