Each special topics course examines a different subject or problem from a comparative framework.
This course will explore the literary-historical influences present in the work of late poet and hip hop artist Tupac Shakur. We will look at a variety of texts, including Sun Tzuís "The Art of War," Machiavelliís "The Prince," Frantz Fanonís "Wretched of the Earth" and various selections from the works of Antonio Gramsci and Huey P. Newton. We will read these texts alongside Tupacís lyrics in an effort to understand the ďtheory of beingĒ proposed by his work.
