Special topics in civil and environmental engineering offered occasionally by permanent or visiting faculty members.
Class description
This course introduces the primary concepts of nonlinear structural analysis including numerical solution algorithms for nonlinear systems and modeling of material and geometric nonlinearity in structural systems.
Student learning goals
Know the theories used to develop the nonlinear structural analysis problem for both geometric and material nonlinearity.
Know how to apply these theories to solve nonlinear structural analysis problems for typical structural systems in which either or both geometric and material nonlinearity must be considered.
Know the algorithms used commonly to solve nonlinear structural analysis problems and how to apply these algorithms.
Know how to solve nonlinear structural analysis problems using commonly employed commercial software as well as educational software.
