Class description

We are living in an incredibly exciting time with technology making our world smaller and our possibilities almost infinite. But no matter how fast change happens, the root of business - and social life as well - is communication. As effective business people, we must learn to apply our communication skills in ever-changing modalities. To accomplish this task we will examine different media formats and learn how to use those formats when writing for, and presenting to, both large and small target markets.

Guest speakers from several different fields will show us how they use writing to effectively reach their audiences and grow their businesses. We'll cover topics such as:

Blogging for Business - how to use this simple tool to win new accounts. Timing - how the critical tool of stand-up comics applies to business presentations. Re-thinking "traditional" media - how to write for print media in an electronic age. The Elevator Speech - selling yourself between the first and eighth floors. I Ain't Afraid - how to write and prepare for public speaking (without fear).
