Basic properties of stars, clusters, interstellar gas and dust. Overview of stellar evolution and variable stars. Basic structure of the Milky Way.

How to locate correct astronomical information.

Understand basic astronomical terminology.

Know how data on stars are obtained and what info it contains.

Differentiate evolution scenarios based on stellar mass.

General method of instruction

Lectures, homework, student presentations.

Recommended preparation

Astro 300 knowledge and basic physics.
