Class description
Spring 2012: Survey of Urdu Literature in Translation
Urdu literature is one of the major literary traditions of South Asia. This survey course will introduce the major works, authors, and literary periods of this rich tradition. The course includes units on modern short story, novel, the classical poetry of Mir and Ghalib, and the modern poetry of Faiz and others. All works will be read in English translation, and no knowledge of Urdu is required. W credit is available with additional writing.
