Topics vary.

Class description

Autumn 2005: "Art of the Ancient World: Alexander the Great to Caesar". Areas of study will include the art, architecture and history of the Hellenistic and Roman Worlds, ranging from the conquests of Alexander the Great and the deliberate fusion of East and West, to Gaius Julius Caesar. The class will continue through the Severan "Caesars" and art of the great cities of Lepcis Magna, Sabratha and Oea (Tripoli)in Roman Libya.

Reading assignments. Lecture, discussion and film.

Class assignments and grading

Requirements will include two short papers (2-4 pages) and one long paper (10-15 pages).
