Survey of Asian Art

Origins and interplay of major movements of South and East Asian art.

Class description

Students will gain a comparative framework for understanding Asian culture and art, ancient to modern. Emphasis will be on the distinct religious traditions of each culture and cross-cultural trends.

2-3 tests, moderate reading assignments from primary text and occasional supplements; short assignments for discussion sections
