Topics in Studio Art and Practice

Examines a variety of cutting edge, emerging, and interdisciplinary approaches in studio art and practice. Topics vary.

Class description

Spring quarter 2014, the course topic will be Screenprinting. We will reference contemporary and historical examples and practices through museum and gallery visits. The course will address technical and conceptual issues with demonstrations and projects ranging from direct stencil to painterly approaches to photographic emulsion. We will produce editions as well as unique prints, working in a full-spectrum of water-based inks.

General method of instruction

Hands-on instruction, demonstrations, critiques and exercises.

Recommended preparation

No prerequisites, but a background in drawing and/or design is beneficial.
