Approaches to water based printmaking. Introduces serigraphy, collagraph and relief printing through lecture, critique, class discussion, and creative practice.
Class description
The process of Intaglio Printmaking. Techniques to be covered include: etching, drypoint, engraving, aquatint, b/w and color printing using a printing press.
Image development appropriate to individual students needs and concerns.
Student learning goals
General method of instruction
Individual projects and numerous inclass demonstrations and discussions. Individual and group critiques.
Recommended preparation
Any printmaking course. Additional drawing and painting experience may be helpful but not necessary.
Any previous art history may be helpful but is not necessary.
Class assignments and grading
Individual projects based upon technique and skill development.
Class participation, completeness of assignments and a willingness to try new methods and materials. A minimum of 9 hours or work outside of class will be necessary to successfully complete this course. Much of this time will be spent in the printmaking studios.
A final portfolio of your work for the quarter.
