Advanced Photography

Topics in advanced photography, including: color printing, large-format photography, artificial lighting, and photography image transformation. Prerequisite: ART 340. Offered: AWSp.

Class description

This course will acquaint students with basic sound and video technique and continue advanced technical and conceptual development of photgraphic works. In addition, by popular request, we will also be working in the darkroom.

Access to an analog camera is necessary.

Student learning goals

General method of instruction

Demonstration, group critique, discussion, consultation, slide and video presentations, teamwork.

Recommended preparation

Attending exhibitions, reading publications on photography, art, technology, and media.

Buy a box of RC B/W multigrade photographic paper and 35mm film (will be discussed first day of class).

Class assignments and grading

Assignments are designed to encourage experimental approaches to problem solving, the acquisition of additional technical skills and the expression and conceptual refinement of individual artistic concerns.

Assessment will be based upon technical and conceptual development, participation/engagement in critical discussion and studio work presented.
