Contemporary Issues in Photography

An in-depth survey of contemporary artists and issues in photography. Prerequisite: ART 241; ART 340. Offered: S.

Class description

Issues surrounding contemporary photographic practice will be considered, including an examination of how these issues might relate to or effect each participant's own studio work.

In 2003, a studio art component (mural enlarging) and imovie will be incorporated into the course.

General method of instruction

Instruction will involve technical demonstrations, readings, slide lectures, visiting lectures, discussion, critiques.

Art Foundations Acceptance into Photography Program Major

Class assignments and grading

Each participant will complete a mural print, a short video piece, one paper, readings and two presentations. It is a "W" course.

Assessment is based upon participation and the orginality and quality of ideas presented in the writing, discussion and studio component.
