Contemporary Issues in Photography

An in-depth survey of contemporary artists and issues in photography. Prerequisite: ART 241; ART 340. Offered: S.

Class description

Theoretical issues about Art and Photography are defined and discussed. Students will also discuss how these issues affect the making of their own work, and the interpretations of other artists work.

Student learning goals

General method of instruction

Group and individual presentations, lectures, readings, discussions, and a museum visit.

Recommended preparation

Art foundations courses, and acceptance into the photography program.

Class assignments and grading

There is a textbook, plus additional readings, two presentations and two papers required. It is a "W" course.

Participation in discussions, and the originality and quality of ideas in the presentations and papers.
